Primary Job Responsibilities
The Traffic Quality Engineering team is seeking a dynamic and innovative manager to lead the Paid Search QE team. In this role, the ideal candidate will lead the team responsible for validating technology used internally to optimize keyword buys on search engines. This is a highly visible tool which drives a significant amount of traffic to the eBay site. The goal is to maximize the return on investment and facilitate buyers locating great deals on products they’re searching for, across billions of keywords. You will utilize your technical background, management experience, and track record of success to ensure efficient and effective project execution resulting in the ability to rapidly improve the product and maintain a high quality level. You will also drive the transformation of the team to increase the sophistication of their testing methods and leverage available tools.
The technologies used cover a wide range, from user interface level, to services, to database, to ETL/Data Warehouse. The manager will also be a part of the leadership team growing eBay’s quality engineering department to the next level of performance, enabling rapid innovation to address customer needs and drive the business.
Job Requirements
* Using your management and quality engineering experience, work closely with peers in Product Management and Product Development to scope and prioritize projects, allocate resources, and plan the product roadmap. You will identify alternatives and trade-offs to inform the planning process at the senior management level.
* Lead the transformation of the team to increase the effective use of automated tests in a continuous integration environment. Propose solutions to challenging testing objectives, including validation of data transformations using terabytes of source data, correct operation of complex algorithms, and monitoring of external dependencies. The end result should be the ability to easily create automated tests which are low maintenance and generate reliable results, freeing the quality engineers to do high-value exploratory testing.
* Actively drive the testability of the product and the thoroughness and consistency of requirements specs.
* Provide guidance in the execution of projects, ensuring on-time delivery with results that meet or exceed commitments. You will handle escalations and resolve issues when they come up, and work to minimize them through mitigation and contingency planning.
* Play an active role in the continuous improvement process, identifying root causes and corrective actions to avoid repeating mistakes and constantly raise the level of performance of your team.
* Work with leads and senior technical contributors to find innovative ways to test more effectively. Establish and enforce standards which ensure sufficient quality as delivered by Product Development.
* Mentor individual contributors and assist their career growth, helping them to realize their full potential.
* Ensure test strategies focus on areas of greatest risk, and identify defects as early as possible in the development lifecycle.
You must be customer-focused, resourceful, detail-oriented, adaptable, and flexible. You should have strong leadership skills and a solid technical background. Your background will include successful collaboration in cross-functional teams to deliver products of excellent quality which achieve the business goals. You must be a proactive and effective communicator, both verbally and in writing. In addition:
* Familiarity/experience with Internet Marketing is a plus.
* Broad technical knowledge of user interface intensive applications, web services, and databases, including usability, performance, browser compatibility, data feeds, and fault tolerance.
* Excellent knowledge of the software development lifecycle, including agile methodologies.
* Proven ability to deliver projects on time with good quality.
